WC3 didnt have this weird elitism, thats one of the reasons its mapmaking scene appeared to be brighter, when in reality, SC2´s is just as good. I guess thats a side effect of having SC2 pushed as this heavy E-Sport title.
Theres this weird elitism that has developed in the SC2 community that custom mods are for noobs and it seems to me alot of people actually take pride in knowing nothing about the Arcade and are just in it for the ladder game, which imo, is fucking stupid. If anything, the Starcraft 2 community has nobody to blame but themselves that they dont know about more of these amazing mods. And the Arcade is a great system for that. But beeing able to play your own mods on a reliable basis.
And that should be the main reason of making a mod - making something that YOU yourself want to play. In any case, speaking as someone who makes high-end, but very niche maps, the Arcade always allows you to get players for your mod whenever you want to play it. And it WILL get a community going if you support your game properlly and it has alot of replay potential. The Arcade then offers a great system for your mod to played and experienced in. The truth is, everytime a large SC2 mod is released the internet is all over it and it gets alot of attention. Dunno about Warcraft: Alliance and Horde. Starbow has small tournaments and a steady community. Proof: įirst of all, Starcraft Universe isnt even released yet and got a ton of recognition when it was in open beta and was played like all the time. I'm just trying to say that another Warcraft 4 would only introduce new characters.Chat on discord PiG with a story of a community member's struggles Weekly help a noob thread Now this idea and many others could be reworked and improved. And the entier Warcraft 4 could be happening around the factions of Orcs and Humans that got trapped behind the portal and in the process you could introduce 2 new factions from the alien planet they got stuck in, comflict with the legion therefor new Villains and new Heroes. Let's say that when Outland exploded a few Orcs and Humans traveled through the portal and a few stayed behind (Honor hold etc etc). You can think of them out of thin are I'll give you an example. At this rate, they'll run out of villains to actually make a Warcraft 4 with. That's not true. I mean, we've already killed so many main characters in Vanilla, BC and Wrath, that Blizzard had to resort to "resurrecting" a dragon we "killed" back in Warcraft 2, just to whip out another expansion. I hate to burst your bubble, but I wouldn't expect a Warcraft 4 being ever released.
Let's hope War4 will take great ideas now from sc2 and upgrade them Personally I feel that game lacks hero units, but I guess most people don't, that's why Blizzard didn't implent them in. Just as Blizzard took some very nice ideas from sc1 to war3, so they took from war3 to sc2. Also 2 completely new races, which greatly comtributed to story and different gameplay feeling.
SC2 is defenitly different from sc1 in quite some ways, though gameplay is quite same same goes from war3, but they added a big element into it - heroes, which tbh adds great deal into gameplay. Though the main reason is, I think, how many new thinks did Blizzard add to games. It's true that you have many options with different units in starcraft 2, but war3 feels far more strategic - you need to be more carefull on spending resources, many units have different abilities to counter others (i know sc2 has them as well, but war3 has much bigger arsenal), you need to take into consideration heroes as well etc.
As of game itself, I prefer Warcraft due to more complexity in gameplay itself. Personally my "geek" growing was with Warcraft 2, so from universe perspective I defenitly prefer Warcraft 3.Īs many mentioned before, Warcraft universe has insane story behind it.
